When We Were Kids
How the memories from then
Fill our mind
With the things we did
And the things we'd find
Pop bottle returns
For a nickel or more
And our neighborhood friends
Knocking at the door
And the ice-cream man
Ringing that bell
And us playing release
And running like hell
And the quarter allowance
For that big penny candy
And picking the crab apples
Because they were handy
And the trip to the Drive-In
And feeling all groovy
Cause the blankets we brought
For when we'd sleep through the movie
And us kids who were poor
And didn't have a pool
Got squirted with a hose
To keep ourselves cool
And cannot forget
Us playing in the street
To be in by the time
The street lights would peek
Yes a kid back then
How fabulous it was
Even down to us calling
The policeman the fuzz
